Eh, I'm oddly okay with where it ended. I mean, the whole action scene beforehand made me want it to be over, actually. It would've been an AWESOME end if they had followed the book and stopped when the dwarves notice that Smaug is gone and the movie ends with the question: where is Smaug. That would've been soooo much better (and the same cliffhanger as in the book, which was a good cliffhanger).

And that melting of the golden statue was just ridiculous. I mean, not only because it makes no sense to coat Smaug in gold, he's a FIRE dragon. They just SAW that Smaug's whole body heats up when he spats his fire. The gold would never become cold so what was the reason behind this? I mean, the dwarves in the book were really (like really!) stupid, but this seemed out of nowhere.
