I didn't plan to do this meme because I only have one fandom, but I'm so freaking bored ;A; (And trying to avoid doing my term papers, oh boy) Snagged from thira and raphipuff.
1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
My first real fic was written for FE8 about Seth and Eirika, kiddy fluff. Because cute. But I actually found some while ago an attempt at writing a Golden Sun novelization XD I wrote it about the time the game came out, in 2000 approximately. And it wasn't even sooooo bad. Very simplistic but okay. And then there was that one OC-centric thing for One Piece which was only 1 1/2 pages long or so XD Oh, and a "novelization" of the X movie, roflmao (God, I love the ending of that movie ;v;) But I don't really count that as "writing fanfiction" since I didn't know what fanfiction was back then. And it was mostly derping around.
And what pulled me into fandom... well, Seth/Eirika, to be honest: the fun I had with putting them (well, at that time mostly Seth, really) into different situation. Interesting enough, said first fic was gen with Innes, Ephraim and Lyon and the bros in it. I think I should read that one again, for nostalgic reasons.
2 – Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.
Does "writing" in my head count as well? As in never putting it on paper? Otherwise it's only
Fire Emblem 8 - 48 oneshots/drabbles in English, 11 in German (though I translated three or four into English, but I'm too lazy to check the doubles)
Fire Emblem 9/10 - 19 oneshots/drabbles in English, 9 in German (I also translated two or three of those)
Fire Emblem 7 - 2 oneshots/drabbles in English, none in German
If "only writing it in my head" counts as well, I can add Ranma 1/2, One Piece, Dragonball and Beyblade (It was some kind of guilty pleasure XD) as well.
3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favourite characters to write?
FE 8: "Were"? If we're talking about the past, then Seth. For a long time he was my favourite. If we're talking about the present, then the Bro Kings, of course. 8D I kinda lost interest in Seth (apart from femSeth, that is. Because it's new and shiny)
FE 9/10: Clearly Geoffrey, past and present. Geoffrey is just pure fun for me. So dorky~
FE 7: Achem, none, really. One was Lucius, the other was my apple OC and I can't even remember who the third was. (Edit: Because I only wrote two, d'oh!)
(The head-fandoms fall into my "yay OCs time" 8D Apart from Beyblade, there it was Kai. He made me love that name, actually. Such a nice name)
4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
Really actually talking? None. Pushing their ways into my fics? The bros. But that's not too surprising since they holed themselves up in my head.
My favourite characters at the moment can kinda act like muses. But not always.
5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
Charachter: *hijacking the fic*
Me: Oh, you~ (Since it's normally a fav, I can't do much XD) Fine, I'll see what I can do for you~
Otherwise they get grounded for messing with my stuff (i.e. the parts get deleted later).
6 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
It doesn't really matter to me. It just happens that most of my favourites are male. But in principle I make not difference. It always depends on the personality for me.
7 – Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
Hm. The Kent/Lyn circle changed my opinion about the Caelin group. Before that I couldn't care less about FE 7, but they showed me that Kent, Sain and Lyn (I totally wrote Lyon just now XD) are interesting.
But apart from that... I'm an opinionated bitch, sorry >< Canon is still the only thing that can change my opinion. (Though fics can show me new interpretations that make me look at canon again to see if I can see them as well)
8 – Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
Yesssssssssss, bro wives. They're fun.
I just try to turn them into characters that have strengths and faults, and feel realistic. I don't know if it works, but you know... Mary Sue has lately become a synonym of "female character I don't like" so... I'm a bit on the fence about the term. The most annoying thing about Mary Sues is probably that the universe revolves around them and they can do whatever they want without being called out on it (well, if the character they interact with wouldn't canonically call them out, then you have an exception). And I don't think the bro wives do that. Oh well, I guess I'd need opinions of others to determine if they are Mary Sues or not.
OCs are a way to have fun in fandom. I'm not too interested in the OCs of others, so I don't expect people to be interested in my OC. But they're fun and so I'll continue to write them. Live and let live.
9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favourite pairings to write?
FE 8: Oh gawd, that's tough. At the moment the bros and their wives are the only pairings that I want to write (that and Fado/Hayden, but somehow I can't find a good start ;A;) I'm so much more into gen and family/friendship stories at the moment.
FE 9/10: Geoffrey/Elincia. And Bastian/Lucia, but I'm pretty bad at writing them because Bastian is such a meanie face. Aaaaaaaaaaand that are already all my favourite pairings from 9/10.
FE 7: None again, since I really can't write 7.
10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I both like Seth/Amelia and Seth/Tana and tried to write them, but they both turned out friendshippy. XD It wasn't going out of my comfort zone, but close enough?
I once wrote Ike/Elincia even though I can't stand it. But they were only a background pairing in a guilty pleasure fic I'd never publish (nor finished XD). It was okay (and I don't think I bashed them).
11 – Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
Gen, family, friendship and humour are my favourites. At the moment I tend to write family or romance-y things. Oh, and Lyon&Viggy angst. Delicious Grado angst~
12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favourite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
No.
13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
Canon and my own headcanon, which is not surprising if you look at the characters that I write at the moment. Without making some headcanon, there wouldn't be much I could say about Hayden, Fado or Vigarde. Fanon, in the sense of headcanon of other people? Maybe some tiny influences may appear, but in general it doesn't work. It's what happened to my Ephraim. I was so influenced by Ephraim meta on my flist that I completely lost my own interpretation and when I wrote him, it didn't feel like I was writing my character. It turned out pretty bad.
... No, not really. It made me look at canon again, which lead to new discoveries, but they're almost never related to the topic that made me look.
14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I'm comfortable with all ratings. I don't often write things that require NC-17, but if I'd get inspiration, I would write it.
15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
Most general triggers; rape, incest, gore, etc. I also warned once for character death, but I'm pretty on the fence with this. I believe it always depends on how it appears in the fic itself. I also decided to mention infidelity in the "contains" category, because I personally wouldn't want to be surprised by it.
Slash doesn't belong into the warning section; homosexual relationships are nothing dangerous I need to warn for.
I think my warnings for that pirate crack were silly, but I don't remember them anymore.
16 – Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
Hate. Hatehatehate. I find it really hard to sum something up in a few precise sentences.
17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
Titles are the axis of evil, trufax. My only "chaptered" fics in English are oneshot collections based on prompt tables so they normally get the prompt as a title (that and I put the pairing into the title so that you don't have to look through the whole collection if you only want to read a specific pairing). The ones in German... they got titles, but they're all... pretty bad XD Oh boy.
18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Music and random ideas popping up in my head. And crack conversations. Gotta love crack.
19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
When I write them down, they die immediately. They have to stay in my head so they can nom on my brain and grow up.
20 – Do you ever get bunnies from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
In general, no. There was one LotR story that inspired me to make a fluff family drabble, but that's all, I believe.
21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
I'm pretty sure I don't...
I have no special feelings about sequels.
22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favourite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
fe_fest , yeah. And I failed pretty hard XD And Big Bang... I really can't write long stories. I lose interest in long stories very quickly.
23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
ff.net and DW. And the German stories that I no longer write anyway are on ff.de.
24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
I have none. Due to my personality I really can't stand it to show my works to others before I post them. It's really the same in real life; you only get to see what I'm doing when I'm finished. Only in special cases I can do it; like when the raphipuff helped me with my last
fe_contest piece <3
But I was a beta for a short while. For two Naruto stories XD It was fun.
25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
Yeah, normally I need music to write. Sometimes some kind of noise, like the TV blaring stuff, is sufficient. No, I have no extra mood playlists (I hate playlists, actually). I normally listen to only one band. I can't write in peace if I listen to a mixture of different bands.
26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
I don't think I've ever researched something funny or odd. The last thing I researched was how a broken nose feels like.
27 – Where is your favourite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
Starbucks, the library of the history department, during classes (I always write the best during class, wtf?) and the chair in the living-room. For some reason I can't write in my own room.
Computer only. Writing by hand wastes too much paper. And computer writing is quicker.
28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?
I tried it once, but it didn't work out. It's not really my thing anyway. I rather work alone, even in real life.
29 – What is your current project or projects?
The fics for 10_orders, some Bro family pieces are always lying around somewhere and the prompts from earlier. (Oops, and the pirate AU. Achem. Well, uhm, moving on.)
30 – Do you have a favourite fic you've written? What makes it your favourite? And don't forget to give us a link!
Hm, I really like my 10Orders collection With the Flavour of Friendship because the bros are just fun. And the Fadia/Vigarde chapter in my Lover´s Challenge collection; makes me still grin every time. I really cannot remember much of my German fics, so I can't say if I have any true favourites there. (But I will re-read my AU there now 8D)
Edit: Okay, after re-reading that AU I've noticed that I still love it 8D It's called "Bittersüße Pralinen" and is in German, if anyone knows German and feels like reading. It's old and AU so the characterizations may be a bit "eh" at times, but I still like it. It's about Seth and the twins, with Seth trying to cope with the deaths of his parents and befriending the twins. And there are pralines. Yummy pralines, since Fado is a pastry chef and Eirika and Seth both love baking and making pralines and they bond over them. (If anyone remembers that AU thread in the first anon meme, I was the anon talking about prefering AUs where the knight characters are not made into bodyguards or police men (even though I love those AUs. I just don't like writing them). (Also, I'm sorry, Glen and Selena, for turning you into school yard bullies. Valter and Caellach, sure, but you two... I was young. And Joshua got redeemed!)
It surprises me actually, that the bros already appeared in my very first fic and Fado and Izzy in this AU. Family fics always belonged to my favourites~
---
HOLY SHIT. TSUBASA CHRONICLE IS ON AGAIN. THE VOICE HORROR IS BACK ;O; ASHURA, YOU HAVE THE VOICE OF A MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN. IT FITS SO SO SO SO COMPLETELY NOT AND IT IS ALL SO HORRIBLE DX (Kuro-chan, what did they do to youuuuuuuuuuu)
(Weeee, wasted quite some time with this 8D)

2/8/11 19:36 (UTC)I'm ready to help anytime, love.
Ahahaa, so many bros. It's awesome to have favorites. I wish I could stick with one character sometimes. ;~;
Geoffrey is so much love. And you did wonderfully with Lucius; I'd love to see more from you on him. <333
(no subject)
2/8/11 19:39 (UTC)They're really bad. *le sigh*
/sings "Bad boys, bad boys, what'cha gonna do when they come for you~" (God, that I know that song ><)
Geoffrey is adorkable. Lucius... hm, maybe. You could make a new prompt and I'll see what I can do?
(no subject)
2/8/11 19:46 (UTC)There are a lot of characters I think you'd do really well with, but I didn't want to just spam you with my favorites, because that seems selfish. But if you're okay with it I can do more :D
(no subject)
2/8/11 19:49 (UTC)And now you made me curious anyway so you have to prompt the people you think I'd well with. 8D (I don't know FE6 though)
