scarletmorning: (Thor grin!)
So, there was a Mediavistik Day at my university today. It was quite awesome. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I learnt a few things:

1. I need moar Mediavistik in my life. Like, seriously.

1.2 I need definitely moar heraldry in my life. Very, very much.

2. Thanks to the horrible, horrible Winter Verlag, I want moar books. On history, linguistics and other stuff. Unfortunately, they are expensive. And I still have too much books to read ;A;

3. I buy faster than I read. A problem. (A lovable problem, though)

4. I want to sing a few Minnelieder. Because there was a short presentation about Minnelieder where we sang. And it was pretty 8D But it wouldn't sound as nice because the choir sounded awesome~

5. The professor who is giving the lecture on the Karolinger is awesome and his voice~ So pleasant~ I could listen to him all day. And, well, he teaches exactly about the time period I love. Awesome~

Other learnings that have nothing to do with the Mediavistik Day:

6. My contest piece is evil. Everytime I think it through it has another ending. And I like all of them ;A; The tone always changes a bit and I like all the changes. But I can't decide >< Evil.

7. I want to write Hayden+tiny!Innes. Kinda like the prompt on the long forgotten [livejournal.com profile] fe_fest . Because yay family fics 8D

8. HOLY SHIT. IN ALMOST TWO MONTHS THERE WILL BE KENT. WELL, I'LL BE IN KENT, IN UNIVERSITY, ALL ALONE DDDDDDDDDDDDD8 8D DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD8 Just a teeeeeeeeeensy bit scared at the moment. Scaryscaryscary ;^;

9. There is no point nine, but I like odd numbers. 8D

10. Need to buy Abney Park CDs. Like now (ie. later) 8D

11. Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, no even numbersssssssssss >8I

--------------------------

Now, to distract me from the scary, I make a meme:

Challenge me!
Give me the weirdest situation you can think of, a crack prompt so impossible your brain breaks when you think about it and/or challenge me to write in a different writing style. I will make them happen!

I would prefer FE8 or 9/10 though, since just writing FE7 characters would be a challenge ;P Of course, drabble length.
scarletmorning: (Germans have words for everything)
So, I was looking up stuff in the library and after I finished that, I suddenly noticed a lovely book standing out. It's title was "Johannes Rothe; Ritterspiegel" and I KNEW I couldn't walk past it without devouring reading it 8D Oh, the fun I had. Anyway, most of the things I already knew but there were a few things about heraldry and signs of stand that were new and awesome.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. It would be smarter to start at the beginning. So:

Johannes Rothe lived in the 14th and 15th century (1360-1434) and was a cleric and teacher. Said "Ritterspiegel" is a didactic poem which should teach young nobles how a proper knight should live (there were also such texts for royals, which were called "Fürstenspiegel"). If they lived appropriately is another question, but the Ritterspiegel is a testimony about how the ideal looks like; and that this ideal was taught in this time period by this teacher to a certain audience in a specific region.

However, the ideals when it comes to behaviour are not what I am interested today (as already mentioned; I learnt nothing new here). However, heraldry. New and shiny. And yes, I really, really do want to incorporate that in fic someday XD
Cut for a looooooong list 8D )

ALRIGHT, history hour is over 8D I'll stop pestering you now~

The little story about Ludwig der Deutsche gets its own entry. 8D Because it's just that fun.

So. It's a quote from the Reginonis Chronicon written by Regino von Prüm. Unfortunately it's only in Latin and I didn't found a translation so I had to do it on my own (and boy, my Latin is rusty.). I didn't translate it faithfully in the sense that I didn't translate every word. I only kind of summarize it. (And I found a translation of the last two or three lines so I can't take any credit for that anyway.)

Cut for surprisingly long quote and translation )

-----

On a different topic. If you like really calm and almost serene stories about all different kind of people, let me rec you Jiro Taniguchi. He has some really great works about life itself and humans. I don't like all of his works (some are too calm for me), but "Keyaki no Ki" (which doesn't seem to be translated into English according to Wikipedia) or "Aruku Hito" (also not translated) are... beautiful, I guess is the right work. Very calm. Mostly about older people and often about the struggle about retirement and everyday´s life or loss of an important friendship or family. Check it out if you like that stuff.
